Divorce Care

Marriage support is available for those couples who are struggling with their marriages. In this program, called Choosing Wisely, a full vision of the steps of divorce is shown. Most people are not usually thinking about these steps when dealing with marriage problems. Individuals are given time and opportunity to talk about their needs and struggles free of judgment and in full privacy. Meetings are scheduled for one couple at a time. Dates for this can be set depending on interest and needs. Further counseling may be advised with a Christian counselor. Contact the Parish Office at 547-1616 for more details.

We have a program for people in the pain of divorce called Divorce Care. This program has been developed as a Scripture-based guide to understanding all that is happening not only to one's obvious life events, but also helps a person to understand their feelings and grow from this painful experience. It is a 13-week program with a small fee for workbook and supplies. Couples do not attend this together.

Jesus taught that the norm: marriage is a permanent and exclusive partnership between a man and a woman for the purposes of giving and receiving love open to the birth and nurture of children. The Catholic Church presumes every legitimate marriage to be valid and binding for life unless proven otherwise. This presumption applies regardless of the baptismal or religious status of the parties or the place where the wedding occurred.

In the tribunal process, the Church judges whether it has been proven that a specific failed marriage lacked something essential from the beginning, and therefore, is invalid and not binding for life thus deserving a declaration of nullity.

For more information please contact the Parish office. A priest or qualified pastoral minister will discuss the case and give specific directions.
