Dear Families,

Welcome to the new year of religious education at Saint Mary’s Church. There are a few changes this year.

  • We have changed our name! Call us: religious education.
  • Religious education classes are available on Sundays and Wednesdays for all ages.
  • Materials are available for families that have discerned a need to homeschool.
  • We have added Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for preschool through first.
  • Our cost is only $50 per child with a maximum of $100 per family.

I have added a few things to the mix, but it has all been a result of prayerful listening to you. I  hope some of the new options will meet the needs of your family and help you raise your Catholic children in the faith of our Church.

The changes are not over. With the Beacons of Light initiative we will continue to need to listen and prayerfully consider how the Lord is continuing to call us to change.

With the ongoing pandemic, I ask for patience, understanding and kindness. Children may wear or not wear a mask as you have discerned for them. Please be respectful of physical distancing. We will follow all directives of our pastor, archdiocese and the Universal Church. We will follow the guidelines that the Darke County Health Department recommends for quarantine after exposure to Covid-19 that local schools are following.

Thank you to all the volunteer catechists and helpers who make religious education in our parish a reality. Stacy Fullenkamp, Olivia Subler, Constance Pitts, Ruth Sinnes, Kathy Unger, Kristi Edger, Kent Holmes, Katelyn Livingston, Paul Myers, Beth Arnold, Ashley Borchers, Meaghan Rogers, Kathy Pierri, Sylvia Kelly-Pressnall, Sharon Vanden Bosch, Maegan Rogers, Kari Holmes, Amanda Rieman, Connie Cromer.

Thank you to all the artists, woodworkers, seamstresses, artisans and donors who have contributed to our  atrium for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: Ken Pence, Pam Hensley, Rick Pierri, Craig Hensely, Jim Vanden Bosch, Ruth Sinnes! The materials for the Holy Family Atrium are beautiful and will easily lead our children to prayer.

The atrium is in need of a few more short bookcases. If God is calling you to work with children, to create beautiful materials for our children, or to share gently used furniture, please give me a call.

Blessings on you and your family,

Monica Masso-Rivetti

The cost of religious education for a first child is $50. For families with two or more children the cost is capped at $100. Fees help offset the cost of materials provided to each child. If this fee is a hardship for your family, please let me know and arrangements can be made. Religious education fees or the parish school tuition includes all youth activities.
